Chapter 2: They Always Come Back
New York City, June 2022
A year and a half goes by, and Instagram tells me Shay is still in Miami, living her best party and sex life. Shay sends me the occasional photo of a Miami sunset or a funny French meme. I am working away in New York, and exhausted from the release of the Lesbian Bar Project Series on the Roku Channel. I’m also at the rocky end of a committed two year relationship.
Shay texts me out of the blue.
“I’m coming to New York for work. You’ve been on my mind. I would love to see you.” My heart feels flooded with serotonin I didn’t know I had.
